Angie from Many Little Blessings sent me a copy of her recently completed eBook called Finding Educational Activities in the Most Unexpected Places: More than 200 Activities and Ideas for Using Commonly Found Objects to Enhance the Learning of Your Young Child". Angie's goal was to offer a wealth of educational ideas for parents to use with their children, using objects already available in most homes, to illustrate the fact that we do not need to provide all the latest and greatest toys for our children to learn and have fun while doing it.
The title describes the contents of the book exactly; it is an easy to read, easy to follow resource listing many wonderful activities that can be done with young children using things like balloons, blankets, bubbles, cookie cutters, cotton balls, egg cartons, laundry, lids, sponges, and even shoes like Crocs! Despite the fact that we have already used some of the ideas in the book, there were lots that I have never come across or thought of myself, and I cannot wait to do them with my boys! I love that many of the ideas are aimed at teaching necessary life skills in a fun way - like washing doll clothes (or smaller items of clothing, such as socks) by hand and then hanging them on a clothing line tied at the children's height.
Angie has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a master's degree in Special Education, is a homeschooling mom to three kids, and works as an in-home therapist for children with developmental delays and disabilities, so she definitely knows her stuff! :)
All in all this eBook is a handy little resource filled with fun, educational, easy to duplicate, and very low cost (if any) ideas that I am sure your kids will love. We will be using a good many of them around these parts for sure!
